The pilot of space shuttle Endeavour, set to take off for the International Space Station this weekend, is from the Southern Tier.

Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Hurley was born in Endicott, but now calls the Town of Apalachin home. He is a 1984 graduate of Owego Free Academy.

Hurley entered the Marines and then NASA came calling in 2000.

Endeavour is on track for a Saturday morning launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The astronauts will deliver the final segment of Japan's huge space station lab to the International Space Station. They will be in space for nearly two weeks.

Launch time is schedule for 7:17 a.m.
